Children's Activities

The Children's Village of the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival is located in the heart of Riverside Park on the Huron River. Families are invited to make it a destination when they visit the Festival. One of the main attractions is the Big Tent where live musical, magical, and theatrical acts perform. Colors the Clown, Boyer the Magic Guy, Lori Fithian with Drummunity, and San and Laz of Gemini are just a few of the local talented performers who grace the stage at Children's Village.
The Activity Tent offers Children the opportunity to make crafts to take home. Local partners have included the Girl Scouts of Huron Valley, the Ypsilanti District Library, and the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum. An inflatable unit rounds out the Village where kids can bounce to their heart's content or until parents say it is time to go. This bounce spot is free and can be visited over and over throughout the festival. (It) In the middle of the Village is the Tot Spot, an assortment of pre-school play equipment including the ever popular water table and sand table, where the younger set can just push, climb, and play while their weary parents take a minute to sit and rest. All of these activities are free to the folks attending the Festival--no tickets, no day-long pass!
Adjacent to the Children's Village is the Petting Farm, just the best spot to go nose-to-nose with a goat, sheep, or pony. Kids are able to walk among the animals, petting them and even feeding them.
To complete this kid-friendly zone, the Jaycees provide a tent for the Beautiful Baby Contest and the Precious Pet competition. These community fundraising events allow every parent to put their child or pet up for recognition.
